Terrain Generator
Our team is looking into creating a game in the style of Diablo 2, and our team does not have the man power to create our own terrain from scratch. Does anyone know any programs that we could use to create a terrain (and possibly some basic objects like trees, fences, etc.) with?
umn,any 3d rendersoftware ,i would say...:-P
as i know there is no such program around to create graphics with a click.if so,i would really be interested in ;-)

Well, if you want terrain with just button press'' then you can get Bryce.

it''s a little utility I made a while back, released as alpha, it''s buggy and slightly complicated, but works..
btw it generates the mesh in quads, you might want to use another program to triangulate it if you want triangles
let me know if it is of any help to ya
I fseek, therefore I fam.

well,bryce is a rendersoftware,isn´t it ? :-P
to create a diablo 1 style game it needs tiles.2d isometric tiles...
and they are hard to create.even if you know how...
the art of creating such stuff is to have seamless tiles that fit each other...and there you will have the same trouble in bryce like in any other rendersoftware:you have to know the exact sizes and rotations for your stuff to get a fitting result.
standard iso is using a width to height with 2:1.that means that you have to create a polygon ,rotate it to front with 30 degrees in frontview, rotate it 45 degrees around z axis and fit the whole thing to screen.then render it in the size of maybe 64 x 32 to get a basic isotile that is working on a 16 dot grid.and by mapping textures to the polygon you can create fitting isotiles then...or using it as a base for putting a fence at it...
i don´t know if diablo 2 is using isotiles also.i never played it.but even if not,and it uses 3d like warcraft 3:there would be the art of low polygon modeling which is even this hard than to create isotiles...
not talking about creating the sprites and stuff...
it´s like asking for a program to create a jump n run with two mouseclicks:one button creates the code, another creates all the sprites, and the third creates the levels...;-)
sorry if i am killing your illusions...i would say, look for a person that will make the artwork for you :-)
@darem: nice little tool.i will take a closer look at it ... :-)

I make mine using Windows Paint and The GIMP (freeware). For modeling I use Blender (freeware). I used to use the more intuitive (but less powerful) Strata, which has a free version.

hey if you make terrain show me: i love d2 and d1! i grew up on them, i''d say personaly: make your own like open adobe photo shop: or gimp then edit different terrain'', after just make it work
why does every one hate me? i ask 2 question then where fighting? its cause im white huh?

Hi, I''m having some similar problems myself. I''ve got to create a massive and accurate map made of 1mile square tiles. I found Terrascape by Digimation
http://www.digimation.com/software/asp/product.asp?product_id=288&category_id=1
to be a good solution for making tiles fit together well, but it''s a bit random. Does anyone know of a better way for making tiles accurate and fitting them together?

We''ve decided to use a 3D mesh that will have a good texture on it rather than going tile-based. We have a small budget that we could possibly spend on a terrain generator to create the height map that we would use for the level. Are there any reasonably good and cheap applications out that would do this for use?
