trouble decompressing p.s. Oh, God, please help.
I have windows xp, so, then, why am I here?
For background, I''d like to say I hate all archiving programs.
Every single one I''ve downloaded has simply quit working either partially or fully.
Back to the problem, I cannot get to two libraries that I''ve downloaded, ODE v.035 and lua 5.0. Both are tarballed and gzipped. Lua is *.tar.gz and ODE is *.tgz. With both of them I get the archive, but no program I''ve tried will even recognize the directory structure within the archive. I don''t believe the files are corrupt as the source is definitely inside(I''ve seen it with a text editor). Other archive types seem to work just fine(*.rar, *.zip).
Yo--
Check it this program. It is far and away the very very very best windows archiver I have ever used, it recognizes tons and tons of formats (including tar and gunzip) and it integrates into explorer perfectly so you can right click a file and instantly get options on how to decompress it. I have never had any problems with it, and use it in XP right now.
Hope that helps.

The Tyr project is here.
Thank you so much, it worked with a little tweaking. Once I unzipped ode I had to give the resulting file a .tar extension before iceows would work and apparently the first time I tried to uncompress it with no file extension it left the file open so I can''t delete it or rename it. Usually all I have to do is delete it without using explorer.exe or wait until I reboot, or both. It happens more than I like, I wonder if a service pack would fix it. Anyway, I''m sending a bug report, if an operation fails or a process is terminated unexpectedly a file should be closed. Of course as much as it happens I think its windows fault. Windows should really tell me what process is using what files instead of ''stop any program that might be using the file''. It really shouldn''t be that hard. Again, thank you.
