There actually is a video game in Japan that involves a treadmill. I didn''t play it myself but there''s a plastic dog at the front of the treadmill with a leash, and the game seems to involve walking your dog or something. I didn''t play it myself but I have a picture. Unfortunately I don''t have anywhere to upload it at the moment.
Um...read that news bit again...its a proposed 1% tax increase (thats 5 cents for a average $50 game...not a big increase)
And the money was to be used to fund programs that help obese folks ... it''s not a tax to take your money with the thinking that you won''t be able to afford junk food and crap.
Such special purpose taxes are nothing new...heck, many states fund public schools through property taxes...own property, but have no school age children (or have them sent out to private schools)...well tough, you still have to pay the tax...
A better use for such a video game tax would be to fund ADD programs

I hate when politics try to intervene with entertainment.. Is this the same guy who sued McDonald''s because he was a fat ass and ate their food too much?
I don''t understand it, because SOME people are lazy fat slobs, we _ALL_ need to PAY MORE TAX MONEY? This is so incredibly ridiculous I can''t believe they can even suggest it! It''s like they are trying to find an excuse to get more money from us, just because we play video games. This never happened with movies and they have been "making people fat" for god knows how long.
My friend bob goes the the movies every day and eats their fatty popcorn and he sure is a fat ass, so why hasn''t he been getting taxed? He also sits on his ass fishing alot and drinks alot of beer, which obviously also contributes to his massive weight, so why aren''t these fat-making activities mentioned at all?
Obesity has been a problem for years in american society, what makes them think that simply increasing the price of our entertainment will help anything?! It won''t stop people from being lazy or getting fat. It will only help them rake in more tax money and make it look like it''s for a "good cause" !!!
I say we all do whatever we can to combat this sorry excuse for a new tax! It''s just wrong in every aspect. What is it? Petition.com or something?.. Boston Tea Party anyone?

Still it''s not as much the price as it is the cause. Why should we be forced to spend more on a video game than a DVD, a yo-yo or a can of beer? "Games make you fat!" Is just not true. If they had some real evidence (not just some statistic about how many fat people we have who also bought a video game) and could prove this is a fact, or if they had some better reasoning for the proposal, it might have been acceptable. But as it stands it is unreasonable. We already pay X% for sales taxes!
Another thing is, who''s business is it if you want to be fat? Last time I checked it was MY RIGHT to be fat if I so choose. Are they trying to say it''s WRONG to be overweight? If so this is a nazi bill !! Watch they''ll start having fat police looking for fat people. And then they''ll start sending people to fat-concentration-camps or some sh1t. Bottom line, if this law passes, it''s open season on the obese.

I agree. Fat people will be more upset with this tax than gamers or game developers. I believe it is in the constitution that we are free to seek happiness, and noplace does it say we must be in shape or enter a rehabilitation program. I am a bit overweight and I would not be very pleased if police told me I have to change or pay extra money simply because I weigh more than they say I should.

The entire contents of the news bit:
For those to lazy to have read it...or those with the attention span of a fly with a sugar rush...
Notice that more then video games are mentioned...
Notice that this ONLY applies to New York state (not the entire country)...
Notice it is to help fund obese prevention programs and health programs for schools...
Notice that there seems to be slim chance of this new tax passing...
And definetly notice how you guys are overreacting to a tax preposal that has little chance of becomeing real, only effects New York state, covers more then video games, and funds programs that no body is mandated to belong in...
This isn''t to say that I agree with the tax...just trying to point out that this isn''t worth getting so worked up over

The tax would help fund obesity prevention programs.
According to an Associated Press report, New York state Assemblyman Felix Ortiz has proposed a 1 percent tax increase on video games, junk food, and TV commercials, citing that these things are responsible for the growing obesity problem in New York. Ortiz said that the final proposal may include additional items as well. The money raised from the tax would be used to fund obesity prevention programs and establish additional health programs for schools. However, the proposal''s chances of passing appear to be slim since Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno said he would not support the tax.
We''ll post more details as they become available.

I do agree that vidio games do cause fatness or obesiety in people who only do one thing. Play games. But i do not agree with the tax. I believe the fat people should pay for their own camp. Im a person who plays games all the time but im also a body builder and im 37 pounds over wheight that makes me obese?
