I''ve never (literally) had the stable releases of Evolution freeze/crash/whatever for me (I''ve never tried the unstable releases since they''re a huge pain to build; not that that matters, since you''re using a stable release). Of course, I use the Debian packages of Evolution.

I''d like to try writing my own, but I don''t really know much GTK. I guess I could do the GUI stuff myself with SDL/OpenGL.

I use Gnome, and I prefer KMail over Evolution or Mozilla Mail.

Yeah, if you just want another mail client, also look into slypheed. It''s really nice, and very light-weight, yet still robust.

yeah, i was having trouble with evolution, kept freezing and i had to kill it. just made the switch to kmail, haven''t really played around with any of its features yet but it seems pretty cool.
