Is WAP the way forward?
Nokia have put information up on their website about their new platform for developing games for WAP mobile phones. When this technology really starts to take off, I think that multiplayer games between mobile phones will be THE next big thing in gaming.
Does anyone plan to develop games for WAP phones?
What kind of games do you think are going to work best?
Woa!
I didnt hear about that yet, but it seems that will really be a hit. It would be very awesome to play some online games with your cellphone instead playing that damn Snake game or the Logic one, heh.
Maybe a very-sime graphic RPG would be somehwat fun to play on a cellphone... Ill surely research on that subject.
Could you point out a direct link to that WAP thing?
Im no their site but uhm, I didnt understand what is that WA thing from their site. It seems to be a server...?
Ah, WAP is Wireless Application Protocol (just read there heeh). Could you point somewhere that has some technical info about this technology?
Thanks a lot, Ill check their site,

I currently have a WAP phone (Nokia 7110) and I to be honest at the moment WAP is very poor. There are a couple of early games sites already about but they just show the Limitations of WAP as a medium for any type of multimedia. At the end of the day it just text and very simple bitmaps, I really dont think it is all that it is cracked up to be and will very soon be replaced by a superior standard. As it currently stands it is limited to quiz games etc. Any thoughts
Is WAP the future of games? In a word no, but what follows may well be. The UK is already going WAP mad and you can get pre-paid and contract WAP phones everywhere (as I guess you know), but the problem is that WAP is really not up to it at the moment and the technology behind it is still somewhat ropy. It is currently predicted that WAP handsets will need to be replaced/upgraded every six months but even then I can't see it being able to do much with games. That said as portable computers and phones continue to merge there will be greater scope for portable online gaming. Hopefully when the third generation phones are launched this will be able to handle almost any online game type imaginable.
Still if you buy the Nokia 7110 you get to pretend you are Neo and run up walls with oval specs on. (or alternatively you could just use it as a mobile phone.). If it helps I know three people with 7110s and on all three the sliding front has stopped working properly, one wont automatically answer, one wont automatically hang up and one does neither, but at least you get the little button on the back that automatically opens it.

OK Let me share some of my info on WAP :-
- WAP is just your handphone using your phone provider as a gateway/proxy to access the internet to get WML (HTML-Like) Pages.
- The entertainment services AFA I can tell from the Nokia sites and docs, are more catered to turn based games. Snake is definetly NOT turn based.
- Is WAP the future? For a while maybe, I''ve read a few articles and they''re saying that once portable devices with large screens become popular and cellular connections on those devices become common... WAP is dead. For a taste, go find a Pocket PC, get a BlueTooth Handphone and dial in and surf on PIE, THAT''s the future.
But nothing wrong with looking into it now. Syntax is pretty simple actually.
