Uh... WTF, OpenOffice???
Okay, this is really beginning to piss me off. As you probably already know, I tried Slack 9.0 a couple weeks ago, and hated it. So, I went back to 8.1 for the time being, and for some really strange reason, I can''t install OpenOffice anymore. It starts to install, then just quits (all it does is make the directories). However, if I''m root, I can install it no problem, but then only root can run the program. Anyone know what might be causing this?

That''s always what has happened to me when I have installed OpenOffice by myself. There''s probably a missing step somewhere in there that I failed to see. Mandrake 9.1 was kind enough to do all that for me and I don''t have any problems running it as non-root.

Maybe it's a silly question, but didn't you forget to follow the installation instructions? See OpenOffice.org
site for more instructions. You have to install the package as root and then run the setup scripts for each user you want separately. (including root)
For me it works fine on Slackware 9.0 and it worked on 8.1 too.
Hope it helps.
