Wow... your Predator thing actually looks really nice. I'd be interested in the specifics of what determines where it moves... it has a really nice, natural look to the movement without looking too perfect. Care to share anything on that?

Most exciting example of emergent behavior you've seen?
I just finished a class at University called Emergent Computing. My project was Schooling Fish with a shark predator. I mainly used Craig Reynolds'' flocking algorithm and the results are quite nice to watch. You can download it here if you like. Runs on Windows with DirectX 8.1. Recommend you have a GeForce2 class card or it will be very slow.
I enjoyed the emergent computing class quite a bit. It''s making me lean towards AI more than graphics now.

Timkin: Hi, you said that this program was in Pascal? I''m a vetran Pascal programmer. Any chance I could have a peek at the code? I may be able to port it to Delphi with some luck. That is if you are willing.
Holy crap, a class called Emergent Computing? Are you from the future? That''s pretty sweet. What school? Waterloo?
simbiant, your example sounds damn interesting to me, is there any download/demo/further information available of your work?

The Emergent Computing class was at University of Calgary. The course page is here if you''d like to have a look. I found it to be one of the most interesting classes I''ve done.

Is it a graduate level course?
And the book shown in the introduction is "Steven Johnson - Emergence". Did you read it, and how was it?

It's a fourth year undergrad course. The same prof offers a graduate level course on Biological Computation which also looks very interesting - I'll probably take that next fall.
I read most of the Emergence book. It's nothing technical at all, and was simply recommended to use to get an idea about what emergance means. If this kind of things interests you check it out. It's well written and a good read. Quite a bit about ants.
