3D Modellers Looking to Get Noticed?
Alright, first and foremost, this is not a spam ad (I was hoping my moderator icon gave that away ). Anyway, to get straight to the point, I''m writing a book for Premier Press, the book is titled Windows and Linux Game Programming, and is going to be a 1300 page monster covering everything from the basics of Windows and Linux programming all the way to programming physics in a fully 3D environment with all of today''s latest technology (okay, so that was just a lot of the marketing bullshit I was told to use to pull some people in, but it''s not far from the truth ). Also, if you need credentials, I am the author of Focus on 3D Terrain Programming (link in signature). I am also a co-author of Game Programming Tricks of the Trade and the upcoming Graphics Programming Methods (to be published by Charles River Media, and edited by Jeff Lander). There ya go for the whole credentials aspect of things.
Anyway, here''s the jist of it. I need as many 3D models as I can possibly get my hands on for this book. Unfortunately, I''m just not getting paid enough for this book to offer each person who contributes cash... But I can promise each person a free copy of the book, and the fact that a few thousand (at the very least) peopel are going to be seeing the work of these models (and attached information in-book and on-CD that describes who made the model, and contact information for the artist).
Now, as for the type of models I''m looking for... Basically, I''m looking for any futuristic models... This can include, but is not limited to, types of ships like drednaughts, cruisers, battleships, destroyers, space-stations, attack-turrets, etc... Basically the kind of thing that you''ll find hovering around blowing shit up a few thousand years from now. I want the models to just have a "cool" aura about them that makes you look at them and say: "Damn... That ROCKS!" Mostly looking for them to give accross a "dark" and "cool" mood also. The models can be of your most preferred format (though, I''ll be very grateful if that preferred format is 3DS, MS3D or OBJ ).
Well, I think that''s it for the basics of things... If you''re interested or simply want more information, just shoot me an e-mail (there is no obligation involved in a simple e-mail, so it''s not like you''re making a deal with the devil or anything). The e-mail address is in my signature, below. Thank you all for your time!
PS. Whoever said cross-posting in forums was bad, well... It is bad, but I''m special.

The models will be used for various demos throughout the book (so there will be screenshots showing the model(s) in several parts of the book, and credit to the artist in-text), and a few of the games that are made throughout the book. There will also be, without a doubt, a ton of readers that will use the models in their own games (though, according the license I''m going to make, they HAVE to ask artist permission for "commercial" projects," and they have to give credit to the artist (along with contact information if desired) if they are used in any project whatsoever.

If you''re writing a book on programming, why do the models need to look cool? Why not use simple boxy figures? Wouldn''t high-quality models distract from the information about programming?
If you are looking for quantitiy, I''d recommend some of the various free 3d model sites (3dcafe, etc).

2 Big questions for ya. (I'm interested by the way) What file format? And do I need to include a texture for it or just the model? The reason I ask is that I've got a 3D fighter lying around that I never made a texture for. Interested?
Ack! Forgot to ask, What kind of poly count or does it matter?
