Hi, I''ve been looking around, are there any simple free utilities to convert from a bitmap to an icon file? Thanks, Jamie
sure.even installed at every pc...paint ;-)
save your bitmap as 256 colour with size of 16x16 or 32x32,and rename it to *.ico.that´s it:-)

just give the bitmap a .ico extension.

The icon file format is NOT the same as the bmp file format, and renaming a file won''t magically convert it.

Having said that, windows can load bitmaps too, but then you cant use icon features such as multiple icons per file, masks or alpha channels.

It''s not free but I highly recommend IconForge from CursorArts. It can even open an exe (or rather the icon for an exe,) change or replace the icon, and then save the exe with the new icon.
