This isn''t about programming, but I thought that maybe someone would have some ideas. One of my relatives has been having a problems with the icons on the desktop. They seem to be corrupted somehow; they have "holes" in them where the desktop or the mask shows through. The only things I can think of are the video drivers or one of the Windows system files. Any ideas? And another thing: Is there a way to restore all of the basic Windows system files without re-installing Windows? More than once, I''ve had lost clusters turn out to be something important to Windows, and I''ve always wanted a way to restore the files without breaking Windows!

this is what i think:
your relative''s computer has a cutterpillar in it
no need to reinstall windows, a bug killer spray would do it

Eat right, excercise daily, live clean, die anyway.
Does this show up all the time? You might try getting TweakOS (it''s hidden on the Win98 CD). There is a "rebuild icons" option in the repair tab that you might try.

It happens all the time. Resetting the icons doesn''t help.

Yeah, Win98 does some screwy things to my icons too -- it sometimes switches the icons that represent different formats. (I''ve had a folder icon represent text files before!!) I make sure Explorer shows the extensions of filenames so I can recognize everything.
