Yep Blender is back and better than ever. There are tons of tutorials out there as well.

I''m sure that if the GUI wasn''t custom implemented, it would be a helluva lot faster on my box.
Yah, I just downloaded Blender 2.26, the first open source blender ever :D
Yah, and if you want some GREAT tut''s try -

Just a suggestion Drevay, find and download 2.23 as well and keep it as a backup. If you ever need to use a script that won''t work with .26 try it in .23. There were some compatability issues before. The nice thing is you can use the same files in both versions with no problems. I needed to do this with several export scripts that wouldn''t work on 2.26
If you can still find it, there is a couple of recent Eurpoean 3D graphics magazines (I can''t remember the names of them) from this January that have full licenses for Caligari TrueSpace 3.2.
Sure it''s an older version but it beats the pants off anything you will find in the Shareware/Freeware market.
I bought the magazine just over a week ago so you might be able to still find it. It wasn''t cheap though, the magazine ran for $19 Canadian (well worth it for the software though).
I hope this helps.

Don't count Blender out... it has come along way... and hey.. its free. I also know that there is a book that was put out by Prima.... sort of a tutorial/walkthrough book on the interface and how to do some tricks.(I have the book, its lost in my room somewhere) I payed $50 for it about 2 years ago, was decent at least for a rudimentary introduction. I was transitioning from warez days into free/cheap LEGIT software (since that is wrong). Blender was a simple answer to a modelling program, even though i never made much real use of it.
And I was thinking, It is amazing how far the community has come to having access to tutorials.... all the free/near free packages of programs(POVRay, MayaLE, Softimage's free trial, GMAX, Blender, V1 of Truespace)
If anyone ever wanted to play in 3d, now is definately the best time!!
-DD
(edit:: OK...correction on my V1 Truespace, apparently 3.2 is out )

Wings3d is a pretty good modeler. It doesn''t have any rendering or animation functionality, though.

Wings3D is my favorite modeling software too. For most modeling tasks (stress on MOST; there are specific jobs it is no good for) I prefer it even to "big boys" like 3D Studio Max and Maya. The lack of texture mapping isn''t a big deal to me since I use Ultimate Unwrap for texture mapping. For animation I recommend CharacterFX.

Yeah. I just downloaded Wings 3D and it''s so user friendly. It''s great for most any project. The only thing that it lacks is booleans... but still, it rocks! I''m creating a little temple in a mountain using it. I use it to model and then I place everything into Bryce and I texture with Bryce.
