Is it possible to create icons (or .ico file) using Visual C++ 6.0 resource editor. If it is then pleas somebody tell me how.

Did you try Files->New->Files->Icon File ?

I tried, but could not make the file with .ico extention. It hangs there like an orphan kid.

Go on insert in the menu and choose resource. Select Icon. Draw the icon and exit vc++6(click yes to save). Go to the folder you saved to and you should find the icon.
