Hey guys, I am still a student but planning on purchasing Maya at some point soon. I am currently working with the free student edition that they provide Anyway, I wanted to know if Maya can do everything 3d studio Max can do and more? Is this true? I want to put together a demo real and so I need to plan out which software to purchase. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Maya and 3d Max are the main contenders... I personally prefere max... but only because I have spent the most time using it... I hear that Maya is really good for character animation... and character modelling... so if thats the routeyour looking to take I''d go with maya... at the end of the day you can do everything you need to with each program, its just a case of choosing which you like

Maya is used for 3D Animation more then game development so I hear.. Depending on what field you seek may be a good way of considering which to buy it seems like I hear max mentioned more often when you are talking about game development and it seems as if I hear more about maya for like video 3D animations such as some of the movies you see as well as for stuff like just basic every day shows on TV. And max seems to be used for like game development I dont know if thats true but I have heard that before.
