Comparing two AI books
Hi, I was about to buy an AI book off the internet but can''t choose between two of them. Does anybody know the differences between "Artificial Intelligenct(3rd Edition)" by Patrick Henry Winston and "Artificial Intelligence: Modern Approach(2nd Edition)" by Norvig and Russell? Most importantly, the differences in difficulty, thoroughness, readability, and anything else you would deem useful? Since I can''t look at the books I can''t tell which one is better!

My personal preference is Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach(2nd Edition) by Norvig and Russell since I found it easier to read due to their style, and yet it was very complete in terms of its coverage. I would also suggest that you visit Amazon (and other online book sellers that carry both books) and read the more extensive reviews that are available.

Thanks. I have read the reviews and what not on amazon, and they both get great reviews. The problem is that they don''t compare the two so I don''t know which is better head-to-head.
Also, does anybody know of other AI forums that maybe aren''t game specific?

I have the 2nd edition of the Winston book and it''s nowhere near as good as R & N. (although I''ve heard the 3rd edition is much better)

I just took an AI class and we used the Russell and Norvig book. My profesor went to the AI sumit or whatever in Europe and almost all the AI gurus said it was the best overall book around. I thought it was a pretty good book. It''s one of the few I didn''t sell back after I finished the class.
