when it''s "a slightly flattened sphere - an oblate ellipsoid of revolution, also called an oblate spheroid". The Earth as an Ellipsoid god, some people can be so anal
You need to make this distinction, for it isn''t being anal. Definition of a sphere: the set of points a fixed distance r from some center point. Clearly, an "enlongated sphere" doesn''t fit this definition. Also, it has very important consequences in the world. Because the earth isn''t spherical, there is a torque on it because the sun''s pull is slightly stronger at some point, and because of this, the Earth precesses. That means you don''t have a fixed north star or south star, and many other things. It''s math, so what do you expect? It''s all about definition and fitting definition so that there are no flaws.
