Not really. Some countries have different copyrights.
I don''t think NeHe would like the contest to be based on the book. I remember him talking about that for the contest "The Fellowship of The Ring". I kind of agree with him : assuming the LOTR contest starts because the movie is in theater, it would be weird *not* to base the contest on the movie !
You''re right, the copyrights are different in different areas...but i mean if we tell the sponsor (assuming that there is going to be one) that we are doing a contest on the movie, they will be less willing to sponsor...im guessing(not sure - anyone know for sure?). We could say that we are doing the demo on the books and the timing is just coincidental - we can also say that any resemblence to the movie is also coincidental...but thats pushing it
At ay rate I really dont want to do a MJ contest - the only music i like is classical and as for pop culture...i guess the point im making is im not going to know where to start

=), hehe...
But I think it is easier to get ideas when doing a LOTR contest. And a contest about Michael Jackson would be SOOOO hard to figure out a good idea for.
And you didn''t have any problems doing a contest about The Fellowship of the Ring, so why should there be with the TTT? Did you ask for rights, or something like that??
