Dear People, I am something of a beginner in 3D Studio MAX 5 and was hoping someone could share some advice on my following problem... Say I have created a box, converted it to an editable poly and extruded one of the polygons. I then decide I do not want this extrusion and wish to cut it away, restoring the box to its original condition. How do I achieve this without using Edit - Undo? Effectively my question is how can I cut/subtract polygons away from an object? I know I can just highlight a polygon and press delete but this leaves a hole. Your assistance is appreciated, Thanks, Alan.
im 3d viz user but it should be the same method:
when you extrude face, and want 2 return it back into original position, DONT extrude it again, because when you extrude-you always create extra faces....you need to MOVE it(yup, hit select and move button(spelling?huh?) and just place that part of your object into original position)!
`course to do this you must convert your object into edit.mesh(or whatever),hit edit mesh, and selcect polygon/face!
i hope this help ya

Here''s how:
Select the face of the extrusion you want to remove.
Click "Collaspe"
This will take the face you selected and reduce it to a single vertex.
Select that vertex
Click "Remove"

If it''s a complex shape this may remove some edges you''d like to keep in the original shape. If so, you can simply select two verticies you want to remake an edge with and click "connect".
