I find it hard to believe you would make a "very bad impression" for wearing a suit. It shows you''ve made an effort and are trying you''re hardest to impress them. If two equally qualified candidates came in, one wearing a suit and one wearing smart casual, the interviewer would be an idiot to choose one over the other based on the way they dressed.
