c++freak,

Yes I am assuming we are all in the US. It all depends on the school you take the class at, and the material covered. At my school, which is a magnet school devoted to technology (CS, MIS, etc.) the class that taught the AP material was CS3. The first used VB, the second was pascal (which I saw no need fore), and third was C++. But, like I said it will vary from school to school. You also have to remember not all colleges will accept the credit, and how much credit you get will vary based on which of the tests you take (Computer Science A or AB).

Last year I took the test, like most here it was quite easy. I got a 5 and now I get to start out a full year ahead, but remember college is the one who ultimately decides to take the credit.

Wow, times have changed. It''s been about seven years since I took my APs. I have to say that the one that gave me the most bang for the buck was English Comp: a 5 got me out of 6 units of college english classes. I also bypassed my first semester of calculus for a mere 3 on the test. But I''m pretty sure we didn''t have a CompSci test when I graduated.

[wheezing] "Back in my day..."

What does getting a 5 on the test do?

BTW, that is one damn expensive test. I could by 2 games for that price

I took the AP CS A test a year ago, breezed through it in half the alotted time, and got a 5. I took the AB test last week and it was mostly easy. The only things I had difficulty on were hashing, which I had no idea about, and the in-order/post-order/pre-order linked list traversal stuff. The free response was dead easy. I''m thinking I got another 5.

And at my school in Houston (Clear Lake area) we have 3 CS classes: CS1 (regular), AP CS1 (AP test A prep), and AP CS2 (AB test prep). I have completed the two standard level courses, so net year I get to be a lab aide and do whatever I want in the lab and show off my mad skills to all the lowly CS1 people. It should be fun.
