Again, a book-tips request The thing is I want to deepen my knowledge of C++. Ive read the standard Sams Teach Yourself C++ in three weeks, and know basic windows-programming and some DirectX from one of PrimaTechs books. Would this book be good to dig deeper into C++ at this stage, or is it more geared towards the gurus who wants to be überlords (ie. not for me yet)? Any other info about the book at all would also be appreciated (there are only two reader-comments on amazon yet). This book actually seems more for the beginners. It will cover things like linked-lists, stacks, queues, etc. If you don''t understand those ideas, the book will be well suited for you. Also, he uses SDL in the book to show some nice graphical examples of the structures and how they work. That will be a little bit more stuff to learn, but SDL is very easy to use.

On the other hand, there is a book called ''Data Structures'' that is supposed to be good, but I think it would be aimed to people that are a bit more experienced.

The book doesn't teach C++, it teaches data structures and just happens to implement them in C++.
However, data structures are very important and so it would be a good idea for you to learn them. I'm reading the book at the moment and think it is very good. I'm a newbie and the book has taught me a lot of useful, and practical information.

EDIT: The book does use some more advanced concepts: templates, overloaded operators and function pointers, and it covers them very well.

Pan Narrans : what is your oppinion on the writing-style of the author?

I find this very important, since I study dry quasi-intellectual financial litterature on the university, and to have to read the works of stiff, boooring, and makin-it-more-complex-than-it-has-to-be authors about a subject I enjoy (as opposed to finance) is just too much to bear. I want to keep this an enjoyable hobby, and reading fun, easy-going litterature that actually manages to simplify complex subjects go a long way.

felonius : hehe, yeah, I knew it was fake (although the meaning is not). For a fascist dictator to exhibit that sort of enlighted introspection...no, that would be too much to ask for.
However, I didnt know where it came from. I suspected Shakespear, but thanks to the link you submited I found out it wasnt so.
Nevertheless, Ive yet to find a quote that describes the masshysteria of this day and age with such accuracy, fake or not.

His writing style isn''t very formal

In each chapter he discusses the current topic in simple terms, provides an interactive/visual demonstration of the concept in action, explains the source code step-by-step, and then shows you how to apply the concept to a real game problem.
Everything is explained in detail, and there is an appendix that covers the features of C++ that the author employs for the source code and examples.
