Terrain generation

Hello, I have implemented a terrain generation application in OpenGL for my university dissertation project. The terrain is generated using functions such as those containing sine or cosine. For example, z = sin x + cosy would give an egg box type shape. By using more complex functions and combining height maps made from different fuctions, all kinds of terrain can be simulated. have you ever thought about making some form of game engine using that?
