Probably asking a bit much (Redhat 8, IPTables)

Hi, I''m a complete redhat / linux newbie. I tried installing RedHat 8.0 on one of my computers, to be set up as a web server. I have been given a link to This tutorial but i really don''t understand any of it. Could someone possible post exactly what i need to do to set up one computer as a gateway for 3 others, with a cable modem plugged into the USB port, or point me somewhere else? All the tutorials, etc i''ve found assume you have the modem plugged into an ethernet port. The annoying thing is, that in order to test if IPTables work, i need to install RedHat, set them up, and if it doesn''t work, i need to re-install windows, and setup internet connection sharing (i haven''t bothered with dual-boot yet, and i''m not entirely sure how to go about it [but i haven''t looked]). Thanks for any replies.

Dual boot is extremely simple. Load Windows first, then load Linux. GRUB can handle multiple OS''s. On to your other issue, I''ve never been able to get my cable modem to work via USB in Linux. So I went rummaging through my old parts collection and took a 10 mbit half duplex PCI NIC and installed that as eth1. eth0 = 100 MBit and goes into my LAN switch. eth1 = 10 Mbit and goes into the cable modem''s RJ-45 connection. Firewalling / masquerading works flawlessly using iptables. So my recommendation, even if you can''t find an old 10 mbit NIC that will work inyour system, you can probably go to the local computer store and get a real cheap NIC. Just make sure it has Linux support.

Theres an on-board network card, but i dunno how fast it is. I suppose it''ll be just as easy to use that as it is to use the USB, but i can''t help thinking USB is better (dunno why).
Any chance of seeing what you had set up to get IP tables to work?

Thanks for the reply.

Sure, just shoot me an e-mail and I''ll attach you my config files and explain them a bit.
Thanks!
