Multiplayer game programming
I have a copy of the OpenGL Game Programming book. In my opinion this book is really good. I know there is also a book named Multiplayer Game Programming. I dont know if this book has anything to do with OpeGL, and I was wondering if this book is worth going out and spending the money for. I figured if im going to learn game programming, after im done with the OpenGL Game programming book i might as well start learning how to make my games multiplayer compatible. Since most games are now made that way. So if anyone owns this book, please give me your input.
-thx

Well, it uses DirectX for graphics. But you can always use the other stuff in directx (sound, input, and multiplay) with openGL for graphics.
I thought it was pretty good. I didnt know any directx programming before, and virtually no windows-programming either, and it taught the stuff in very focused but relaxed way. So Id recommend it.

------------------------Why of course the people don’t want war. ... That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. I''d say it''s definately worth getting. It starts off with simple communication using sockets, and moves on to DirectPlay.
A lot of useful info. The graphics are DirectX, but the graphics aren''t particularly involved in this book, and the concepts should be pretty familiar if you''ve read the OpenGL book. I''d say the OpenGL book covers DirectSound and DirectInput better than Multiplayer Game programming, but that''s not really important given that the book is supposed to be about multiplayer game programming.

Btw, is OpenGL really that much simpler than DirectX graphics?

“Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done.
And I am Caesar.”
