Had another thought... You could widen this to mirror the Dot Com boom. You could use the same model, maybe to even make another product.

I think it would be a good idea, but it would be hard to make.

i think it would work nicely as a web-based game, such as the rockstar game...

you could get a certain number of points per day, which roll-over, and you can use these points to do stuff (i.e. get an exclusive game from a big company, or start a rumor about how bad the competition''s console sucks, or hire john carmack, or whatever).

There''s a lot you could do with toilet repair as well. You could have a race to before the toilet overflows. You''ve got the main water valve. The float inside. All kinds of stuff. You could model it so that you''re a little mini gremlin that can go inside the toilet and cause mischevious sabotage.

The point is, anything can be fun. Even what was originally proposed here.

Heck, those stupid Drug Wars games always get a lot of use because 40% of college students are either actively selling drugs or have sold drugs in the past. It''s something they know, and it''s something they like.

May I ask how you came up with this tripe?

Maybe you and I don''t share the same college experiences, and maybe the percentage was an exaggeration, but drugs in one form or another are a huge element in the life of the average American student. Even if they don''t actually use, buy or sell them, they know people who do, and are immersed in a culture that acknowledges their existence. Don''t get snippy, and don''t take internet posts personally. It''ll make you old.

Sorry Iron Chef. I guess I was a little touchy that day.

Don''t you just call Mario to fix that??
You are right though. It''s not what you make, it''s how you make it.

2 things -

First, there''s this thing called Virtual University or some such - highly praised by many people for it''s instructiveness and different outlook. (source available on the net somewhere, some googling should turn it up)

Second, this forum is the game developer wannabe hotspot. It''s not many other things, one of those is the plumber wannabe hotspot. Hence, a game developer sim is like fifty bazillions more interesting to the audience of this forum than a toilet sim. As a vehicle of communication with peers, it''s potentially very powerful.

As for mainstream, bleah. Without getting down and dirty with the project, we''ll never know what could be learned from it, perhaps creating the next blockbuster sim.

Really cool idea that may not be what I dream of but I certainly wish I''d thought of it first.

(My projects and ramblings...)

Totally irrelevant. Aerospace engineers don''t have a hankering to pretend to develop aerospace products. Musicians don''t have much of a desire to pretend to create music. Oil painters probably aren''t seeking a program that let''s them pretend to paint and market their art.

An aerospace engineer might be interested in an actual cad program. A musician might be interested in an actual MIDI program. An oil painter might be interested in an actual paint program.

A game designer might be interested in an actual game design product, such as an engine.

So, I say, so what if this is the game design forum.
