I THINK it means to go through a string of characters and look for a specific word. i''m not sure though.

it means to take data and put it into a form you can use...like if someone typed in:
go north east

the parser comes in and splits it up into individual words:
go, north, east...which your program can then analyze

some parsing is more complicated, but thats pretty much what it means
