Recommended books
Hey,
I am wanting to begin to learn c++ and directX API''s. i already learned quite a bit of visual basic some time ago and so i know quite a few of the very basic programming concepts (if/then/else, varialbes etc). i''m thinking of getting Sams teach yourself c++ in 21days (4th edition), can any one recommend this book ?
does anyone know a decent book on 3d game engine theory and direct3d, or infact any gameprogramming books that could be of use?
i wanna take it one book at a time and make sure i know it, i also dont want to learn MFC etc :/ i''d prefer to learn win32, directx etc
thx for help
a book with the tiltle: "learning xxx in xx days" isn''t a good book in most cases. You can''t learn a language in 21 days.
im pretty sure its impossible to learn it in 21 days aswell
but i hear the Sams books r quite good?

Freaker13-you could always spend more then 1 day on one of their days. Just because it has the book outlined in days doesn''t mean you have to learn the whole day''s worth in one day. Besides its not like you going to sit down for 21 days and learn c++ are you? your going to read the chapter then go back through it and expirement with the concepts presented.
just a thought

"Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it." — Brian W. Kernighan
im using sams teach youreself c++ in 21 days 4th edition and found most of it pretty good, only problem i found is that one or two of the examples actually use arrays a few chapters before the book teaches you about arrays :D

I like the c++ interactive course by Robert Lafore. It teaches you the concepts of OOP right from the beginning of the book. Plus it has quizzes and exercises at the end of each lesson. There are about 96 lessons in 12 chapters in the book.
