I try to program daily and I still have not made a game yet. I feel i know all the basics... but not enough to get started... The thing is I want to learn several aspects of besides programming... Design sticks out in my mind... but what is it...story line, stages, music, art, etc. I am taking art in school along with a major in computer sciesnce and a minor in art/business. I have completed text games but I really dont feel like that is an achievement... Plus it was more like noodle code(well it did have functions (but no classes) I like c++ but I am in java at the moment... is it possible to program games in jave?? it is really slow compared to c++

It''s about how a game should be played. You can go to Game Design forum and you may get the idea of game design by reading the threads there.

Yes.

Yes. Not really slow though, that''s too extreme, and extreme tends to lead to flamewars. It''s slower.

My compiler generates one error message: "does not compile."

You should search the web for game design articles or tutorials, you can do it in gamedev, but the best articles i have found are in other places. I also found a online book that really improved the way i designed things, but that was long time ago... but try doing games that are bigger everytime and design them before coding or doing art or doing sound and music, read about the stages of game making, and someday you will be a great designer.
