Looking for comments on game ideas
Hi! I was looking for comments and suggestions for improvements on my two most recent game ideas, or references to where they might have been done before...
(1) Spinning grid game.
A game 'a little like' (I hate saying that) Columns, puyo-puyo and other "make patterns of coloured blocks" games.
Instead of the usual "block fall from the top" design, blocks are fired from the left hand side into a grid. Once the blocks hit something that is already there, they stick. There is one solid block in the middle that always stays there.
Demo image: (probably chewed by proportional fonts..)
The star is the solid block

BBY
Y*GG GG<- Gun
GGBY
You can use two buttons to rotate the grid. When blocks form the "correct shapes" they disappear and anything that is now disconnected from the central block will now fall downwards.
The only things I have to decide is what patterns of blocks should be fired and how they should be adjustable (if at all), and what shapes should disappear..
(2) Electronic grid shooting game
A suitally different idea, but still with a grid in it
This time the grid is a square grid made of wires, kind of like square graph paper
The grid is electric (but doesn't electricute anyone.. stick with me!). Evil creatures of various types attach themselves to the grid and try to chew through the wires, you must try to stop them! If some part of the grid gets chewed through then it breaks. Also if a part is partly chewed through, or if there are bits missing nearby a piece then it will begin to get hotter and hotter as it has more trouble getting electricity through it, until it can snap. You can cool wires using a water gun, and repair partly broken wires if you try for long enough. Totally broken wires only get repaired between levels.
With this game, I can't decide if it would look better with sprites, maybe on the GBA, or if I should go for 3d fun...
Any comments? suggestions? telling me they are a waste of time?

Seems like there was a discussion last month about the importance of "Simple" games. The only problem with simple games, is that no one understands them until they''ve been made.
Build it, and they will come. And if it doesn''t suck, they won''t get annoyed and leave after 10 seconds.
I''d advise building these little games in Flash or Java or some other web-enabled language, though -- people will gravitate toward simple games a lot more if they''re online (when there''s nothing else to do or when more complex games are not an option, i.e. at work).
