Thanks for all the replied, RedHat has nearlt finished downloading so i''ll be comming back with more stupid questions soo probably. Something like "why won''t windows explorer work under linix?" well, perhaps not *that* bad.

Let me try to answer some questions before you ask them.

Red hat does not include mp3 support and adobes acrobat reader, you can get them from here
http://www.gurulabs.com/downloads.html

If you check the plugins for mozilla will you find that almost all of them has not been installed
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html

The default graphic card driver is the open source version but for most cards will you find better drivers from the manufacturers pages like nvidia/ATI.

Just to clarify ...

@AP: What does MP3 support stand for ? Encoding? Decoding? Decoding&Playing? If you try to help a newbie, be as precise as possible.

P.S.: Of course the RH (versions 7.3 & 8.0) have software for MP3 playback right-out-of-he-box (almost any decent distro has an mp3 player included) Not sure about a decent encoder, bit I guess you can dl&install anyone, that you like.

P.P.S.: IMO the ghostscript+viewer provided with RH8.0 can read almost all PDF versions out there, even if it is not from Adobe. And is also in the standard distribution (your fault if you do not install it).

have a nice day ...

RH 8.0 has no software for mp3 playback. If you do a clean install will you have to download software for that.

Acrobat is in my opinion the best reader and does the other readers support bookmarks and fullscreen?

A lot of other useful stuff is also not installed like a media player, ddd, ...

I thought, that XMMS remained a part of the RedHat distro (I am using RH7.3) ...

what a pitty ...

Red Hat 8.0 includes XMMS, but they removed the MP3 decoder plug-in. You can download it online here.
