Hello I want to purchase a text to speech software There are a lot of them on : http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Speech_Technology/Speech_Synthesis/ The site had been suggested by a GameDev.net member, thanks again. I need some more help. May someone suggest the most suitable for an RPG ? I mean , human voices as realistic as possible, of course, but also the possibility to modulate it : happy , angry , sad etc What about textPuppet? does anybody use it? thanks in advance Alberto
I believe I suggested that. There''s a few sound programs out there too, but in my experience none of them are realistic. I know someone who used a program for a male and female character in his StarCraft campaign, but it was just cheesy at best and didn''t really work for trying to be proper humans.

I suggest that if you really need voice actors, ask around voice acting forums here or try SAVAGE (http://savage.samods.com).

you might use the Microsoft speech 5.1 sdk. Although it does not sound realistis at all (why not use it for "artificial" beings?) it is relatively easy to implement. And yes, there are rudimentary ways of manipulating the voice, but in a mechanical way (changing pitch, tempo etc.).

I would also suggest the MS Speech SDK. You''ll be getting something that is constantly being improved, and it''s entirely possible (though somewhat time consuming) to create new "voices" for it. If I''m not mistaken MS has a few additional voices besides the ones in the standard SDK for download, though I would have to double check that. (And as stated you can modify the existing voice by changing speed and such)
yes, Michaelson, there are four voices. - And obove all, it''s free.

Thanks to everybody
