Hi It is now some months that i have a very good idea, but i''m not sure the game can be technicaly made right now because of the hardware restrictions. I''m wondering if we could copyright a game idea, if no work has been made yet on the game itself. Thanks ------------------------------------- "Oasis is not dead !" - WiseMan

I don''t think you can copyright an idea... If so than we would all be commiting crimes.

You can copyright any intellectual property. Probably better to ask your local copyright office for more specific information than wait for an answer here.

This comes up every other month. You can''t copyright an idea. If you design a game, you can copyright the stories, text, graphics, music, and other resources in the game, but you can''t copyright the idea for the game itself.

In france we have that sentence : "les idées sont de libre parcours".

It means that ideas cannot be protected by any mean.
Only actual implementation of an idea can be.

Make a design document for the idea. It''s now a piece of intellectual property plus it allows you to flesh out the idea and the sort.

Do that trick where you mail it to yourself and find out that it doesn''t work!

If you copyright a design document then the document''s text is copyrighted, not the ideas it presents.

All commercial games are copyrighted, yet they all borrow ideas from other games. That doesn''t mean they are all in violation of copyright laws. They aren''t.

Also, don''t copyright gameplay ideas. That''s just moronic and stupid.
