Advice on contract rates
Hi all
I am in discussions with a game developer (playstation, ps2. gba) regarding doing some work for them. This would be my first contract in the game industry (I am a programmer in my day job), and they are asking me for an hourly rate. However I am at a bit of an impasse over what to quote them. I dont want to over-estimate and lose the work (Its VERY important to me to secure this contract) but I also of course dont want to cut my own throat.
Bear in mind that I am a relatively inexperienced artist, the games company specialises in ''budget'' titles, and they are german based.
Has anyone any advice on the sort of figure I should begin negotiating at?

For professionals, anywhere from $30 to $50 per hour is normal. If you''re just starting out, and have another income, $20/hour is a good wage.
Thanks a lot, its remarkably hard to find useful information on this subject. Out here in new zealand it isnt like theres a lot of people around in the industry to ''network'' with either!

the APs numbers sound about right, just keep in mind that freelance rates include tax, holiday money, social security (if applicable), so if you have to pay any of these off your contract fee I´d add it up to the total.
Also, hourly rates depend on the type and duration of the contract... more work, cheaper rates.
