I wish my game designer worked as hard as you guys do
I joing a game development team like 3 weeks ago, and I''ve been coding as much as possible. But how much can I code without a design document? I''m coding features that I''m guessing the company will like. I ask to see the design doc and the game designer gives me a rough idea of what the game is like. Something you would pitch on the back of the box.
I come to this forum and see people actually spent months on there design doc, I''m envious.
Sometimes the team leader wants his members participating in the design process, maybe that is the case?
I would imagine it would be more fun to work in a team where you could influence the design.
I spent a few months on my design document for a space game:

do you think that a good enough design doc?
I put that game on hold tho and started working on RTS, which is simpler to code.

RTS Simpler to code? I coded a rts once, it was incredibally hard, I just made the engine but man that was really tough to code.
I like your design doc, I wish you were our game designer, I would be able to finish this project a lot faster. And no it isn''t a team approach, I don''t want to be thinking how the game will be, I want to program what they tell me to. Jeez you guys think programmers are creative? *psshh*

If you don''t like it, then quit. There''s plenty of people with design documents dying for a coder to "just do what they tell them"
If I had my way, I''d have all of you shot! codeka.com - Just click it.
For me, coding an RTS is simpler in terms of graphics. I made a 3D landscape engine (based on a generic 3D engine) and an editor for it within a few weeks. So now all I gotta do is render units on the landscape, the only difficulty here is finding correct slope and position for the unit. The game logic and game design is complex, but that''s what I like doing most. I don''t like dealing with graphics code.
