Ok, I have had my Debian GNU/Linux box for quite some time now, but up until this past week or so, I haven''t used it for much more than file storage and periodic messing around. I had a friend come over to help configure it but without him I was basically lost. Classes and work and girlfriends can take some time away from looking things up, so I haven''t put much effort into it. I had my Win98 box, and it ran just fine...mostly. Anyway, I finally made an effort to get my Linux box to be more useful as a desktop box. I had to do a programming assignment for my Intro to OS class, so I wanted to use KDevelop. I got X working, and I had KDE setup, along with the necessary programs. Then I had issues because I couldn''t use Konqueror for accessing my school''s online learning websites. They used https and Konqueror couldn''t handle it. I had Mozilla, which I liked better (it felt like IE), and I got it to work with https nicely. I even setup a POP account so I can sign up for a few mailing lists for Debian things. Now I like to game, so I got a few of the games for Linux as well as installed Quake 3 Arena. Unfortunately I had to get sound working. I knew I had setup sound before, but I couldn''t get it to work again. Found out I just had to load the emu10k1 module B-) I had to setup my account to be included in the video group and give that group ownership of the /dev/nvidia* devices. So now I had OpenGL support. I had sound support. I had networking support. I had Gaim for instant messaging. I had Mozilla for web browsing. I had games (I have a few more games for Linux, like Myth 2, Descent 3, Railroad Tycoon 2, and Heretic 2, although bzflag is my favorite currently). I even installed KOffice and Abiword among other things. I can watch movies and listen to MP3s (I have a 120GB drive in this machine, and it is really nice to not have to transfer files to my Windows machine) What was I missing? I miss my Blue Screen of Death. B-) I still need to setup Samba, but now I might not need to. Today is day two that I have not used my Windows machine. I am quite proud of myself, and I just wanted to share that with all of you! I can''t wait to start game development in Linux. Now if I can just get my homework done sooner, I would be able to do so. B-)

Don''t compare stupid & fat pinguins with Linuxoids!!! :D
We are the best & our children will be more clever, than those who use windows

Oh dear God, help us!

It must be the hair. Yeah. The hair. Maybe if we all shaved our heads we, er, ya''ll, wouldn''t look so, uh, like that.

Thats amazing, I never thought I''d see the day when every Linux user in New York City got together in one photo.

They''re not even all from New York! (Linus is in the Midwest/West somewhere, working for Transmeta)
