Ok guys, correct me if Im wrong, is it true that all of us is really wasting our time? I mean dude hear me out for a minute, why are we staying up for countless hours at night(wasting our moms electric bill) on the computer, calling our selves programing? Our we really programing, our are we just playing ourselves? Think about it, i mean, how many people actually think that you will get recognized for your work. Hmmm, something to think about huh. I surly think about this issue! We spend all of our money and time into this, maybe even devout our lifes to this hobbey, but what good will this do in the long run in life? Are you sure programing, is what you want to do in life? Are you sure this will be the profession that will put clothing on your back and food on the table for you and yours?I I like programing, but sometimes I have some doubts( maybe because I have a old freaking computer!) but i am at the age were im supposed to be thinking about this kind of stuff..............so, if this does not apply to please dont apply with any STUPID or IGNORANT remarks. ehhh, im sure c++ will be my profession.
That's a good question, and worth asking.

In the beginning, it seems to provide a lot.
Get too far into it and you start depending on it too much, and you might even forget why you really wanted to do it in the first place.

You have high hopes and plans, looking forward to show everyone your art, that great game that opens everyone's eyes... and yet you have no real plan to make that happen.

This doesn't apply to everyone, of course. You know who you are.

I was that person, for a time. But, it's getting better. I might even get back into it again, when I enjoy it again without "needing" it.

What does it do in the long run? Depends on the person and the audience. If it fills your life with a decent share of appreciation that you can express to others (either in real relationships or through your art), I'd say it's worthwhile.

Whether or not it can provide you a living depends on just that. Is it providing you with a living, or do you plan for it to, and if so, how?

It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.

Accept the futility of life and all things in it to reach enlightenment.
I''m sure programming at some awful company is still better than working at a fast food restaurant. Trust me on that one !

When I started progamming many years ago in high School (and I mean serious programming), I didn''t really have visions of selling my product and making lots of mone; I programmed because it was fun to make games, and watch them work. However, it turned out my programming did help me in the end. I chose a good university to major in Computer Science (GA Tech), and I now have a great job because of it (no, I don''t program games for a living, but I still program games for a hobby).

Take it for what it''s worth; if you enjoy it, then keep doing it. If it''s a burden, take a break. it''s that simple.

master_ball, you obviously have never worked at a really awful company. Or you have a high threshold of paint when working with/for stupid, ignorant, clueless, etc., people.

We do it because we like doing it...we get to write programs that can be entertaining, help us with our homework , and we get to talk about it on forums. Also, you can impress people pretty easily (it doesn''t take a very large program to impress a non-programmer).
errr, pain that is. Or maybe that was a Freudian slip and I should go tag the boss''s office while he''s out.
Yes, thank you for your responce.

I hope I get somewhere in life doing programing.
but you see, I ive in a area where not to many chances come to people like me, (espically working in this field).

Where am I supposed to start,?

Im only in high school, at the age of 16. Im looking at Computer science schools but, there is a money issue.

dude, this is really driving me crazy. I really want to program but who will recognize my work? I dont want to devoute my whole life to programing and nerv get anywhere with it!

If only I could get a job some where as a graphic desinger or a software developer. You knowm, im really serious about this profession, but where do I start? There has to be a solution. This is my last year in high in school and im running out of time. Please gurus, help if you can or, just give some advice. Thanks

NOTEPlease no ignorant replys, thank you)
