How to choose a good OpenSource 3D engine ?
It seems to be a newbie question. But I think that the companies wanting to optimize their development time must reuse the code, so they must have the same question.
After reading "Game development and 3D design" and "Game architecture and design", after visiting http://www.cyberloonies.com/game-engines.html and also http://www.3dengines.de I still don''t know what engine I need.
I''m working on a Fallout-like CRPG. So, why not an isometric one ? Because I didn''t found an OpenSource isometric engine which can be used as is. So thinking about Ultima IX, I turned to first person 3D engines and I found many good engines (Genesis 3d, Jet 3D, Nebula, Quake 2, Fly 3D, etc.) but I can''t compare the development time using these engines.
Is there somebody who can advise an engine with a relatively short game development time using it ?
Sorry for my English

AP, besides being outdated, do you think the Quake 2 engine is bad?
It''s good of course but it will require you to make any modifications open source.
Q 1
Searching for "Oxymoron game engine" in google is useless.
Please, where can I find this Oxymoron engine ?
Q 2
Is it better to use Quake 2 with some code modification or Torque (TGE) which is very cheep ?
Thank you for your help

You''re probably better to look up oxymoron in a dictionary.

Thank you siaspete,
I found it in a dictionnary and after learning how to ask the questions, i''m going to ask Bill for a help with ANSI C.
Is there anybody who can advise a good OpenSource engine which can be easyly reused for a CRPG ? Just a name please.
Thank you

Heh, a word of advice lanawan. If it is short and anonymous - ignore it. Is Crystal Space still around? That was pretty sweet. What about Genesis3D?
Ok - I just looked it up. Here ya go ---> Crystal Space
It even has an iso engine. And even better, it is under the LGPL instead of the normal GPL.

My sig used to be, "God was my co-pilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him..."
But folks whinned and I had to change it.

but be warned, the documentation on the Iso engine was poor, last time I checked.

Hey, Andrew. Have you used Crystal Space much? What kind of experiences have you had with it? I am just curious - cause I was thinking about using it myself...
