How should I learn Character Animation
Im familiar with 3d modeling basics and now realize I need to learn how to model/animate (not very detailed) bipeds characters.
I wish to make realistic animated models running/fighting from a isometric/birds eye view(similar to Diablo2). So detail is secondary.
Questions:
For a novice, what is the fastest application to get me from no character experience to rendering running animations(from a isometric view) ? Preferably the app would have premade examples that I could tweak so I dont have to re-create the wheel.
What books are good for me to pick up?
Thanks,
Blitz
Blender is pretty good at both modeling and animation. The interface is a bit obtuse, but if you can get past that its great app. Did I mention that its free? Find it at www.blender3d.com.
Well, the best app for animation (that's under $500) in problably Animation Master by Hash. Great app, has loads of controls, restraints, etc. The last time I priced it, it was around $300. In my opinion, its better than Blender as far as character rigging and animation go. I still prefer Blender's modeling tools.
I don't have any experience with the more expensive packages. I would imagine that Max, Maya, and others have great tools, but you gonna pay through the wazoo for them.
You mentioned wanting to buy books about animaion. Visit http://www.comet-cartoons.com/. Great site, with loads of tutorials on amimation and modeling. The author uses max, but most of his tutorials are adaptable to other apps.
