Just starting, should i buy this development tool?
Hi all, i am very new to the game industry and i also have my eye on this development tool that is being sold on ebay. It is sony''s black programable playstationthe "net yaroze". I just wanted to know if this would be a good start for a complete beginner, and if it''s worth the investment. For years a friend of mine and I have always talked about being in the industry, and every year it looks like we lose more and more interest in it because we are stuck at a very crappy part in our lives. I don''t know how he feels about the game industry, but I don''t want to give up this dream. Any thoughts are most greatly apperiated. Thanks

NOPE! You''re a beginner! You''re best bet is to download a C++ compiler and some tutorials and get crackin with it!
Just say no! Instead, spend the money on a good compiler and some good programming books. If you jump straight into console programming you are going to be very lost trying to learn the language syntax and trying to deal with a non standard development environment. Then you will get frustrated, wonder why you wasted your time and money and then give up. Learn a language really well first (many people would say C or C++), then take you knowledge and explore some new territory like consoles.
bugawk?
Thanks alot for the help guys, i am currently trying to learn c what else should i consider looking at?

If you are learning C, and you plan to stick with it, don''t worry about learning anything else at the moment. The mistake I (and I''m sure many other beginners) made was trying to learn too many things at once. Finally I realized that the right way to do this is to pick a language (I''m going with c++) and then do nothing but improve working with that language until you feel comfortable enough in your skills to move on to the next level(win32 will be next for me, and then directx). Don''t try to do too many things at once; have patience, and it will pay off in the long term.
