Developer network for ogl dx anyone?
I am in the process of making a site for directX and openGL developers to host their projects on. I would provide them with 20-50mb of space to start out and if they needed more they could ask. The transferlimits are also unlimited, but within reason ( dont pull 300gb one month just because you can ). So I am wondering, is anyone interested in a service like this if its free and all I require is a small banner at the top of each page?
Please post any feedback or maybe requests for things to go with the service. Also each site would have FTP with PHP/ASP/CGI to use freely. So anyone up for this?

if you include MySql then you would have a real hit.... i dont kown how hard that would be to do?!?!?! but i know a lot of people that would sign right up

Yeah, a database + PHP (and ASP for those microsoft junkies...) support w/ a small amount of space would be great, most people would probably run phpNuke because its easy to setup and very effective.

sounds good.
I''ve been thinking about going for something like that, seeing how I have a mega-secret-uber-project-thing underway... as you do...
things that would be important though:
you would absolutly need a place where all site updates are displayed... think how, say, planethalflife runs, with all the hosted sites updates being put on the main page. And doing this would have to be VERY easy and fast. and also secure/safe - ie, no one could hack up some porn or whatnot... doing this by email is usually not all that good, as you really need a small team to keep the site updated... 1 person cannot handle that... And I have experience of not having important news posted, or having it go up a good week late...
template designs for people to use with their projects with really easy ways to update them is also pretty critical. And template news blocks, so people can still write their own html, and give their site a bit of individuality. (prehaps a password protected admin login system would be nice)... but this is getting into some fairly complexish ASP, or whatnot.
Also, sending emails when the site hasn''t been updated for more than a week is a good idea. People would have a tendancy to start a project with a bang, but quickly get bored and leave the page idle... Easy ways to remove pages too...

Wow this is a little more suggestions than I anticipated! That is great though that you guys seem interested in this, I will addin mySQL if it is posible at all. I would like to get this site going sooner now. I shall clean up the scripts over the week and weekend and maybe have a beta up by next week sometime. Thank you guys for helping me finalize the details a little more on this. I will report back here with progress on this

Hi!!!
Good idea. I''v been looking for free web space with PHP and FTP support but couldn''t find any for my project (see my signature). I have 100MB space in my uni account but without any goodies (php, ssi, ftp).

the site looks very nice. I''m interested to see how popular it becomes... you''ll probably need to start a pretty big PR drive getings all the various dev sites around hooked up... ie, gamedev and it''s members (eg, nehe), opengl.org, flipcode, etc. A coordinated PR blitz of these sites (eg, they all have your site as headlines at the same time) would likly have your site take off...

For this new network I decided to purchase a new domain name, so it will be a 3 day delay on this because I will have to wait for the DNS records to change and for me to get it hosted. If you guys want to be the first signed up just email me at the email posted above, and I will sign you up for the first members!
Thank you for your support, and I hope we can all unite to make this a great community effort!
Thanks,
Philip Plante
