Mandrake Linux on 8500
Hey
I tried this post on linuxnewbies.org but i didnt get much of a reply...
I just installed Mandrake 8.2 PPC on my 8500. It installed fine... everything went (mostly) smoothly. However, when i restarted after installation, I couldnt boot up in linux.
I am using Bootx, and after downloading pdisk, I found that my linux partition was /dev/sdb5. I put that into "Root Device" box in Bootx, and put "devfs=mount" in "more kernel arguments".
When I click Linux, it seems to start loading linux, and then says:
VFS: Cannot open root device "sdb5" or 08:15
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:15
<0>Rebooting in 180 seconds...
I have tryed "root=/" and "root=/dev/sdb5" as kernal arguments, just as a wild guess, but no luck.
Here is the output from pdisk. The formating screwed up a bit, but its hopefully readble.

Sorry I have never been rich enough to afford a Mac, and I don''t use Mandrake . I found a similar thread on the Mandrake forum though.
