I am making a small football sim and i am wondering what is the best way to go about rating? I mean it''s hard to just watch a match and say oh he has a 87 speed 90 power, ect. So what are some methods you use to decide what to rate someone?
you look at the stats. unfortunatly for you, many stats that game makers use are not availible to the general public. its quite easy to time how fast a player runs a certain distance then scale this from 0-100 or 0-10 or whatever system they decide on internally. same with power. catching could be based on catch vs misses for the year in games. in fact all states can either be gathered based on game stats (ie ones found on cards) and stats measured at practice. they keep so many records its not even funny.

being that you cant use the real team names nor real player names, you might as well come up with yoru own stats randomly. possibly tweaking a few yourself. you could just rate the team as a whole, then based on that have the players deviate from that so tha the avg of the players will equal the team stats.

You should come up with solid ratings that at least *could* be used to accurately ''describe'' real players so someone might be able to make a third-party roster add-on. This will add more to the game and increase the odds of a lot of people playing it. You wouldn''t have to add that for me to give it a shot, but I know a lot of people in the market for this kind of game would demand it.
