Most Creative Idea?
What is the most creative idea you guys have ever thought of (to you), no copying off of other games.
-----------------------Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?------Edgar Allan Poe
When playing D&D I wanted to combine the elements of several stories from other published dungeons into a massive quest.
Those who know the D&D game would know a lot of these stories.
Deep within Greyhawk Ruins was a floating obelisk that was beyond magic. One of my players wanted it in his castle so a time elemental encased it, freezing it in time so that when Oerth rotated to the right spot, it would release the obelisk and be in his dungeon. I decided the obelisk would be the center of the Greyhawk sphere (SpellJammer reference), since Oerth is the center body of the solar system, so all astronomers suddenly saw all the stars painted on the sphere's surface shift slightly![](smile.gif)
In another storyline, Vecna (a la "Vecna Lives") comes back to close off all of Oerth from access to the gods, and become the only greater god himself. The characters managed to stop him, in the process acquiring the Sword of Kaz which they gave to Gabriel, a Solar, to guard.
Finally, in the Throne of Bloodstone (on another planet, the Forgotten Realms Sphere), they quested to steal the Wand of Orcus, in the planes of the Abyss. I had multiple parties adventure in it as a race. The party that had the Sword of Kaz lost the race, so I figured I would have Orcus capture the Solar and use the Sword of Kaz in place of his wand. But when that party finally showed up to to get the Sword (after freeing a ki-rin), Vecna showed up to reclaim what was his. Orcus and Vecna started doing battle, and the ki-rin opened a portal so the characters could escape. Meanwhile, the party that successfully destroyed the Wand of Orcus had planted the encased diamond which sprouted a silver tree to forever keep the land free of demons. (See Throne of Bloodstone for details!)
.....
NOW, with all that backstory established, Vecna still wants to take over a world. From his battle with Orcus, he discovers this Forgotten Realms planet, unprotected and unaware of his existence. So, he shines a light down upon Lady Christine near the silver tree and she gives birth to a deformed baby Vecna, allowing himself to pass into the Forgotten Realms planet. Daemons (not demons, so they aren't repelled by the tree) show up and steal the baby away, which naturally grows up to become Vecna.
When the characters arrive at the planet, they find it engulfed by Vecna's influence, and he has successfully become a greater god. The plane of Hades is slowly creeping over the land to take it over. If the characters get too close to his fortress, their items start to lose power because they are stepping away from the Prime Material plane.
The characters eventually figure out that since Vecna was a lich before he was a god, that if his phylactery can be destroyed, Vecna will be destroyed. The only way to destroy the phylactery is to touch it to the obelisk of this sphere, which is in the center of the sun in the Forgotten Realms world (a fire body is the center of this solar system).
Recovering the phylactery would require questing across the lower planes.
Getting it to the obelisk would require the use of a SpellJamming ship. I was going to have a dragon composed of fire guarding the star, coming off its surface. And an undead SpellJamming ship to race them there to stop them.
The dungeon never got made, but it was a nice way to bring all the various worlds and storylines together in one big character retiring quest![](smile.gif)

It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.
All my creative ideas are Top Secret
at least if i had any
creative ideas they would be top secret
oh wait i do have one creative idea...
this has probably already been done but:
a program that can convert sound files to bitmaps (like heightmaps) and vice versa so you could edit a sound in paint

I read in PC Zone August or July that a company is developing just that idea, so I was obviously beaten to the implementation - I first had this idea about 2 or 3 years ago.
The idea was a multiplayer RTS/FPS combo - some players play the strategists/commanders and have a RTS view. Now the twist is that those units you''re commanding are in fact the other players, who are playing from an FPS perspective.
Damn.![](sad.gif)

Full Speed Games. Period.

A new 3D object culling algorithm, which by the way, I''m still doing tests on but it will probobly be must faster on collision and tremendously large worlds. Anyways, you asked.

i had a nice little idea i made a tech demo of. It was basically a little underdeveloped game taken too early from the safe environment of my computers womb like hard drive.
NOW THATS A METAPHOR!
Basically you could kill stuff with either guns in hand to hand combat as a normal human, or do a partial transistion into a demon-like creature and hack the place up and shoot enery out of your hands. You could also climb walls. IT was pretty good, but it had problems. Mostly the fact that every part-demon stage had to have its own model, and another model for the climbing animation. Like i said, too early.
I recently madew a story to go with this, i may post it.

Gimme your definiton of creative.
And what's more creative: A cool adaption from other media, a new idea, a plot, or turning an accepted gaming paradigm on it's side?
edit: Oh, and what's our criterion for measuring creativity? After all, if we're looking for a most creative, then we need some way to say what's more creative, right? Oh, and if say, was a nutcase, and was conviced that Cannon in D held the form to the universe, and put it in game form, is that creative, or is it just copying someone else's work?
I just love theoretics..... Reminds me of physics. What if hte speed of light is constanlty slowing down? Does E=MC^2 still hold? If so, does that mean that the universe is truely headed in an entropic sprial towards nothingness, and exisitence is thus meaningless? Or, if E=MC^2 doesn't hold under those conditions, does that mean that we can both create and destroy energy?
Wow. Sounds like a neat basis for a game...

My most creative idea
<thinks Long and Hard>
No wait thats subtraction
"Making it up! Why should I be making it up. Lifes bad enough as it is without wanting to invent more of it."
