i am planning to write a dropship-kindof game. You''ll have these [dropships] and have to wipe out enemy installations [in the usual manner.] i have a few questions though: 1. how do you write a terrain engine that can do many sq miles of world. i have no experience with CLOD technologies, i''ve been using direct3drm. can you do the CLOD thing using a pmesh? 2. does anyone have ideas that would add a bit of depth to the game? im just playing around with the idea, having dug out terra nova, delta force and some old dropship games./ i would be wanting to put a ground element in the game as well, and perhaps some strategy stuff. plz help me sort out my ideas qatal die or be died...i think

if you''re gonna go ahead and do a big 3d game like that you''d better learn DX8 (DirectGraphics). It''s a lot more powerful and a lot easier to code with. Although you''ll basically have to start all over, I''d say it''s worth it.

will do.

any ideas on the design side of things?

hmmm, you''d have to give more details on that, all i got so far was that it would involve dropships attacking targets.

look into Tribes 2. A tribes 2-like look of things with some dynamic AI controling them would be a great way to help carry out mission objectives.
