Well, I''ve just turned 27. And I only started learning to program a couple of months ago. I don''t care if it takes me 5 years, with more hard graft than I ever imagined possible to do a basic game. I have a passion, I have a dream, and I''m gonna work really hard to fulfill that dream.

Amen to that, Brother. I''m 26, and I just started a few months ago.
You''ll quickly think that the best age to start at is theAgeYouStartedAt -= 4 years;

I started as a Jr in High School and got stuck with DirectX for 2 years so stopped for that time.

I realized it doesn''t matter when you start, but how much effort you put in. My compiler is my passion and really the center of my life. I always talk about my programming "groove", when you can code/debug for 12 hours without noticing it. When I don''t have my groove I feel like I''m adrift aimlessly in life and talk about finding my groove again.

So, age isn''t important, dedication is.

The language you learn is just a tool. It doesnt make you a software engineer or a programmer. Why do people even ask questions like this? I worked with a guy that had programmed for over 30 years and his work was aweful. It has nothing to do with when you start or how old you are. Its what you know and if you able to apply it.
If you want to learn, then learn. I don''t understand the purpose of this post. If you''re asking will I be frustrated by game development if I start now, then the answer is yes. But that holds true for everyone at some time or another.

You''ve already distinguished yourself just by being here, have no desire to do anything on a computer besides what AOL allows then to do, anyways. So, there''s a good chance you have the patience, just judging by your interest.

I too am in the mid to late twenties and I started programming a while ago (8 months of C++) I don''t think age has anyhting to do with it I think it''s about how dedicated you really are, and are you willing to give up a few hours of sleep most days.

When the world has got you down, that's when you strike back and show them who you really are.
