Has anyone here taken any of the game institute online courses, i''m tempted to do one, just wondered if anyone around here has taken one? If you have i''d be interested in hearing your thoughts on them. Thanks Darren
I''m looking into taking one of the courses pretty soon as well. But I''m about to start finals, and then I''m moving several thousand kilometers away, so I can''t really do anything right now. I''d say you should just take a course and see how you like it. Take one of the six week ones, they''re cheaper, and you''ll get a feeling for how the whole thing works and if you like it or not.

I took three courses.. quite good.. depends on what you hope in fact..

Which courses did you take? I was hoping for the gameinstitute courses to cover enough on each subject to get me started but I realise that some of the subjects will require further study. Think i''ll book one when I get paid at month end.
all the subjects require further work i guess. I took opengl, terrain rendering and bsp courses. all the courses (in the world) usually make an intro to the subject, if it is not an advanced course. I was new to the subjects, now I am not. But, I still have to further study/code..

if you want to learn some particular stuff, in general, i can say it is a good place to start. but if you already know about the subject, for instance opengl, forget it. However you can always invest your money on books as well I think gameinstitute offers some scheduled&disciplined stuff. Better than working/studying on own..

hope that helps

This did help, it has confirmed what I thought. Thank you.

what kind of game do you program at the end of the C++ course?
I''m not sure but I can let you know in about 6 weeks as im going to sign up for that first course now. I have worked through the c++ tutorial on cplusplus.com and im confident that I understand the majority of it (just the odd bits and bobs need a little work.) I want to take the gameinstitute c++ course to see about the directx and game programming aspects of c++.

Silly question...

...where is this gameinstitude exactly? It sounds interesting.
When the world has got you down, that's when you strike back and show them who you really are.
Gameinstitute.com, go and have a look. Basically they offer online courses in different aspects of game programming. The courses start at around $60 and last 6 or more weeks. I have heard good reviews about it so I am giving it ago.
