Hey Steve! I read your article in GD Mag... and the quote regarding computer AIs not working together - e.g. "you attack and I''ll defend" - was mine!! You attributed it to "one developer"! I don''t love you any more! Dave Mark President and Lead Designer Intrinsic Algorithm Development "Reducing the world to mathematical equations!"

Oh no!

Actually I do apologize. I recall the conversation but in my notes later that night I just jotted down the quote...mea culpa, mea culpa!

But then, you are one developer, surely?

Sorry Dave. It was an oversight, I swear.

Hey Dave,

FWIW, the Ferrerman has quoted me without naming me, a time or two in his articles.

Think of it this way, you must really have arrived on the game AI scene to be
considered "one developer" worth mentioning?

Eric
Actually, we should record next years'' sessions and transcribe them. Not only would it be beneficial to people, but we can actually give credit where credit is due!

Speaking of notes and stuff... have you guys seen the conference session notes that I took at E3? I sat there and just typed like a madman during the sessions. What you see on my site is actually un-retouched just the way I saved them at the end of the session!

Years ago, the conference did record all roundtables, and make the tapes available.

I don''t know why they stopped (other than $$$$ cost), however if they started up
again, I would prefer that they video taped the sessions. That way one could see
who was talking (too difficult to tell from an audio tape).

I''ll check them out. FWIW, it is extremely difficult to do a good job of moderating a live
interactive discussion, and take good notes at the same time. It would be nice if there
was a scribe CA assigned to each roundtable session who''s job was to take notes.

Maybe I should send that in as a suggestion for next year?

I just have to wonder. Is credit why we do this? I honestly don''t care about credit. It''s nice, but I can''t count the number of times where I''ve been quoted (or misquoted ), saw it and just smiled.

To me the fact that they''re quoting me means that I could end up affecting the direction of games in some way (or whatever it is that the discussion is about) is reward enough.

Then again, Dave does insist on the vanity signature...

Maybe I''m just weird with this kinda thing. I could care less whether I''m credited half of the time. I just want to play and make better games. If my input (however anonymous) means that a game that I''m playing is better, I''m happy... even if I don''t realize it.
Hmm credit is a tricky thing. On one hand it''s good to recognise the ideas and work of others. On the other hand we shouldn''t expect to be individually credited in an informal discussion of which the reference is not a major part.

And he did apologise Dave...
Hey, Ferretman! I didn''t realize that you wrote that article. I thought it was well written and very informative. GD Mag is sitting on the back of my toilet open to that article. That is where *ALL* serious reading gets done, right?

I realy like having access to folks that know what they are talking about. When I finaly get around to doing something real, I may actualy have the folks around to point me in the correct direction.

My sig used to be, "God was my co-pilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him..."
But folks whinned and I had to change it.
(For those of you who don''t know me as well as Steve does... I was frickin'' kidding!)
