Just completed my first game: Os and Xs
Hello all,
Well after years of reading game dev boards and starting/stopping development on mods for games and attempting to make my own I have finally created a fully working one. It''s only noughts and crosses but hey it a start and a great feeling to have something that actually works.
Some advice to anyone who knows a programming language and wants to start game programming.
You will read in a lot of places that you should start with Tetris or blocks, I found that (as I am the wrong side of dumb) it was a little hard to get going on those type of games. With Os and Xs I didn''t have any animation to deal with and it is much easier to get it done completely and not half way finished. It took about 2 evenings to complete.
If your wondering what I used to produced it, I was using DirectDraw (I am learning from the tricks of the game programming gurus book) and c.
Just wanted to share my merriment
Congratulations! Unfortunately, i'm still struggling, trying to make a simpe game like asteroids or spave invaders. So far, i'm a sittin' duck!

You've taken your first step into a larger world
Just don't forget to come back every so often! Climb a tree or something.

It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.
