Hi, I'm back for the Steam release of my game!
I wanted to tell our development story, as Floops was such a fun game to make. My game development journey began when I was reminded a friend (Dylan) was an artist (a very talented one at that). I walked into the Bong shop he worked at, asked if he wanted to make a game. Several years later here we are.
Dylan brought with him a heavy anarchist/punk/grunge style that I consider truly unique, though it is a blend of many influences. Some of the best 90's cartoons inspired our work: Beavis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Simpsons, Rugrats. All cartoons that I love to this day.
Dylan really helped shape our grungy look. When I asked if we could rework cigarette and drug references for age ratings, Dylan told me no. When I asked if we could rework some of the references to lower age rating, Dylan told me no.
He was right of course, and our 90's anarachist cartoon game was born. Check out his instagram if you want to see equally horrifying tattoo designs: https://www.instagram.com/dylanzdrobovart/?hl=en
Along with my I worked with another friend, coincidentally (I assume?) also named Dylan. Unlike the former punk tattoo artist, Dylan is a law abiding software engineer. Dylan has taught me so much on our self taught game dev journey about software architecture, structure, and good coding practices. In the end I did code a large portion of the game myself, but I don't think I would have been able to release a game without him.
Despite the cartoon appearance, Floops is a 90's game - including all the tough boss battle and arcade challenges.
How's that for punk?
I hope you enjoyed reading. From our humble punk beginnings , we hope you enjoy what we have created today.
