I released version 1.3 this week, finally adding grenades, a feature that I have being promising for some time. Grenades helps making the types of attack more varied. You can lob them over objects, hitting enemy that can't be reached by direct fire. Also, I made sure that they are widely available. Every second soldier is equipped with a grenade and will use it at the first available opportunity.
In this release the AI also fight using two different tactics. Instead of the head-on attack that they normally employ, the enemy now will sometimes employ zonal defense, staying inside buildings and waiting for the player's squad to approach before attacking. Also, if the AI decides the enemy is too well dug in, it will retreat to a rallying point that's easy to defend (usually a wall) and wait for the enemy to approach.
