Week #71 - Populating our world

It's alive !

Back in the days, we were explaining how the world would be reacting to your game play, both in terms of difficulty and look. City will change visually depending how hard the level become because you've been seen too often. This mechanic will have it's own post later. The world is also populate with many kind of unit, all with their own attribute, look and difficulty. The harder it is, the better the AI unit will become. It is important for us that the game slowly evolve toward the end game content. It's inevitable that you will be detected enough time to trigger a very hard difficulty for your next level.

You have to face various type of enemy.

A couple of civilian, armed civilian, cops and higher rank cops. Security guard (not shown) are done, soldier on the way,

Civilian

They can film you, increasing world awareness level. They can also contact cops. There are three main type, which have tendency to FILM, FOLLOW YOU, CALL COP, the weakest one will have a tendency to just flee. Make sure you shoot them too, just in case ! If you get film, the awareness raise, if they follow you, they attract attention and can aggro more unit, if they call cop, cop will hunt you down also increasing awareness. Some civilian are armed and can also fight you.

Security Guard

They can shoot you, but doesn't have proper aiming training. They tend to defend their location, they tend to appear more often at night in closed area and some secured area

Police

You have two main type, regular cops and high ranked officer. The regular cops can call backup and higher level unit if they are overturn. There are 3 regular cop type, each having more health and aim precision. The high level unit have a bigger health boost and precision, they can't call backup. Higher unit have regular pistol and also automatic firearm

Soldier

You have various declination of soldier unit. They have automatic firearm, much better aiming and more health. They can be equip with heat goggle, night vision goggle or no goggle.

Secret services

They will spawn if one of your character die, they come to hide the truth. They are very well train, but stand between cops and soldier in terms of firepower and survival rate. They also appear in special location.

We are currently building a first wave of unit

We want to include a few iteration of each unity type so that the game is enjoyable. The more we go closer to a end product, the more level we have, higher the unity count we will have. At this point, we need at least a couple of each to test and balance the game. It's a long but exiting step toward reaching beta release. We wish that cops and civilian look will vary depending on location around the world. This is something we wish for, but that will require time and may come after beta as we need to focus on releasing beta and improve game mechanic and to make sure people actually love the game before going wild in term of assets.

@Rutin thanks hahaha ? All the human AI are a morph of one base model. The bigger the chin, the harder the enemy is. Why 1 base model ? because… for alien, we all look the same ?
